Earlier this week I wrote a piece about the cost of emotional bypassing. In this piece I’m going to share some of the ways I help people in my practice heal layers of unprocessed emotion, and shift from emotional bypassing to emotional intelligence. When I say “emotional bypassing” I’m talking about the ways in which we avoid feeling our feelings, and unfortunately in doing so, we miss out on the healing that results from the simple act of feeling. There are a lot of ways to bypass emotion- some of us distract ourselves with screens, others use food or substances to numb out, but the most common, and systemic way we emotional bypass these days is by talking around our feelings, in attempt to explain or rationalize them.
