If you have already read The Healing Path of the “Heart Chakra: Integrating the Armored Self” you know that the heart chakra is the bridge between worlds- the upper and lower three chakras, the celestial and terrestrial planes, the unified and separate experiences of self, and the metaphysical and physical realities we straddle.
The heart is no ordinary organ.
“Historically, in almost every culture of the world, the heart was ascribed a far more multifaceted role in the human system, being regarded as a source of wisdom, spiritual insight, thought, and emotion.” - The HeartMath Institute
The heart is the organ of spiritual perception, so given that the western world is materially overfed and spiritually undernourished, it is no surprise that heart disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the US.
We are literally dying of heartbreak.
When you understand the unique role of the heart in the chakra system, it’s clear that the heart is so much more then an anatomical pump or a generator of emotions. The human heart is the bridge from me to we. It uses compassion to weave self into other. It uses compassion to transmute human suffering into the highest form of love. The heart doesn’t just pump to circulate blood blow in the body. It pumps to circulate meaning into our pain. When our pain is too much to hold we inspire others to generate compassion and when we witness the suffering of others, we are the ones moved to compassionate action.
When pain is present the heart connects us.
The heartbeat of humanity is the very thing that makes us ONE. The HeartMath Institute has a growing body of scientific research that explores and explains how the electromagnetic field of the heart connects us. Their work affirms that the boundaries of self extend far beyond our skin and that there is a great deal of information transmitted in the extended field of the heart. This is the scientific basis for the shift from me to we that occurs in the heart. While HeartMath’s research reveals so many profound insights about the heart, one clear take away is that as long as the heart is beating, we are not separate.
