The Secrets Of The Throat Chakra

I’m taking a brief break from the root cause series to bring some attention to the throat chakra. Knowing how to use the throat chakra can have a favorable impact on all of your goals in health and life. So in this piece I want to demystify the throat chakra so you can start using yours for good!

If you have read my previous articles about the chakras, you already know that when I write about the chakras, I am not referring to anatomical structures, but rather, an invisible framework that serves as a bridge between the physical and the metaphysical parts of health. Each chakra is associated with structures of the nervous and endocrine systems, suggesting that these are areas on and around the body where your sensitivity is heightened and your perceptual range is greater than it is elsewhere.

When I write about healing through the chakras, I’m referring to the process of becoming aware of unconscious patterns that shape your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual experiences. When you are unaware of these patterns, it can feel as though you are a victim of life's circumstances. Healing through the chakras is an empowering process where you become aware of the wound patterns that have been unconsciously controlling you so that you can create your life and health you want.

Each of the seven chakras holds a unique theme and an associated wound pattern. In case you haven’t noticed, these wound patterns are intimately connected to the seven root causes I’ve been covering in the root cause series. To heal these wound patterns, you must move from the shadow state of the associated chakra into its gift. In other words, you must become conscious of the unconscious.

I’ve written about the chakras before so if this topic interests you, check out this piece on the root chakra, this one on the sacral, or explore the archives where you’ll find 2 pieces per chakra.

The central wound of the throat chakra is guilt. (More on this coming soon in the root cause series). This is not the kind of guilt you feel simply for letting someone else down. This is the guilt you feel for letting yourself have it all, or for taking up space in the world. It is the guilt you feel for speaking your truth and knowing that your truth may actually be at someone else’s expense.

The throat chakra is a magic wand. It transmits thought and intention into the material world via language. Sound is a potent bridge between the spiritual/mental quadrants of health and the physical/emotional quadrants of health. This is one of the reasons why mantra is such an important part of so many spiritual traditions- because the repetitive sounds you chant impact your physiology and the world around you. When you chant a mantra it vibrates the sella tursica of the sphenoid bone, where the anterior pituitary gland sits and releases stimulating hormones to all the glands of your body. This shapes how we feel and show up in the world. If you have a voice, you have the potential to impact your physical health, your thoughts, your emotional state and our shared reality. This is how the throat chakra works.

Your throat chakra can be used to create anything you want. But so many of us have too much guilt to fully use it to our advantage. This is often influenced by the collective illusion of scarcity. If we believe that the world is not resourced enough for all of us to have what we want, then it is not possible for us to create the lives of our dreams without imposing on someone else’s ability to create their dreams.

For example, I had a client who works in the same industry as a close friend, and her business started taking off. She felt uncomfortable sharing her success with her friend because she felt guilty about it, and didn’t want her friend to feel bad because she wasn’t experiencing the same degree of success. She was censoring herself, burdened by guilt and her throat chakra was blocked- inhibiting her ability to create the kind of impact she wanted. Often, what is unspoken is unrealized. In reality, it was absolutely possible for both women to be successful, but she couldn’t see that so her success was attached to some really unpleasant emotions. Sometimes it’s true that two people cannot experience the same kind of success at the same time, but that’s ok- because just like flowers, we are not all designed to bloom at the same time. And sometimes we don’t even share the same definition of success.

There is space in the world for all of us to create- but when we deny ourselves permission to do so, and shut down the throat chakra’s ability to turn our thoughts and dreams into reality- we forget how powerful we are. When we consciously engage the throat chakra and speak our truth into reality, we remind each other that we live in a magical world. We inspire each other to create for the betterment of all.

When the throat chakra is blocked, we must move from the shadow of misunderstanding into the gift of manifestation. The secret to doing this is not some esoteric, mystical practice. As most secrets are, the secret to the throat chakra are hidden in plain sight.

Here is the secret to the throat chakra …
